Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Hunting Party is made by HUNTING PARTY STUDIO, based in France. We are the data controller for everything described here.
Write to us at contact@playhuntingparty.com. We answer within one month.
2. What this covers, and what it does not
This policy covers the game and the services we run for it. It does not cover Steam. Your Steam account, your purchase, your friends list and your Steam Cloud storage are handled by Valve under Valve’s own privacy policy, and we have no access to them beyond what the game needs to run a match.
3. What the game processes
3.1 Your Steam account
We read your Steam ID, your display name and your avatar so that other players can see who they are playing with. We do not receive your email address or your payment details.
3.2 The multiplayer session
Running a match means exchanging positions, actions and voice between players. This goes through Photon (Exit Games, Germany). They act on our instructions and only for the duration of the match.
3.3 Voice in real time
Proximity voice chat is carried between players while you speak. It is not stored on any server of ours, and we do not listen to it or record it for moderation.
3.4 Memories clips
Described in full in section 4.
3.5 Crash reports
If the game crashes we may receive a technical report: what the game was doing, which version, which operating system. It contains no voice and no personal message.
4. Memories, in detail
4.1 What is recorded, and when
While you play, the game records short video clips of stand-out moments. Recording starts when the moment happens and runs forward, for up to thirty seconds. The game does not keep a rolling buffer of the minutes before, so nothing is captured outside those clips.
A clip holds the game image and the game sound. The game sound is what you hear, so it includes your own microphone and the voices of the players around you.
4.2 Where clips are kept
On your own computer, and in your personal Steam Cloud space so that you find them again on another machine. The space we reserve is 1 GB per player.
4.3 What we see
Nothing. We have no access to your clips, and none of them reach us unless you press Share yourself.
4.4 The voices of other players
Their voices can be in your clips, and your voice can be in theirs. Every player accepts this before playing, on the screen the game shows at first launch.
Switching Memories off stops your own game from recording. It does not stop anyone else’s. As long as your microphone is on in game, other players around you can hear you, and your voice goes into their clips the same as before. The only way not to be recorded at all is to mute your microphone, or to keep it off.
4.5 What the game does not do
This section matters, so it is explicit.
We do not build a voiceprint. We do not try to recognise who is speaking. We do not infer your mood, your stress or your emotions. We do not analyse what you say. We do not train any model on your voice.
The game does read the sound of your voice to move your character’s mouth in time with it. That reading produces a mouth shape and nothing else. It cannot tell two people apart, and it is discarded from one frame to the next.
4.6 How to switch it off
Open the phone in the menu, go to Settings, and switch off ENABLE MEMORIES. Your game records nothing after that: no clips, no story photos, no Steam screenshots. Clips already on your disk stay yours, and you can delete them at any time.
This setting is yours alone. It does not switch off recording for the other players, and it does not take your voice out of their clips. Mute your microphone for that.
5. Why we process it, and on what legal basis
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Steam account, session data | running the match you asked for | performance of the contract |
| Voice in real time | letting you talk to the players around you | performance of the contract |
| Recording Memories clips | giving you a record of your own matches | legitimate interest, and you can switch it off |
| Crash reports | fixing the game | legitimate interest |
| Using a clip you shared | promoting the game: social accounts, trailers, the store page, press | your consent, given for that clip |
Recording and publishing are two different things with two different bases. Accepting the agreement at first launch does not give us permission to publish anything. That permission is asked for separately, one clip at a time, at the moment you press Share, and the screen says plainly that a clip you send can be used to promote the game.
6. Who else is involved
| Who | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Valve | the store, your account, your Steam Cloud space | United States |
| Exit Games (Photon) | carrying the match and the voice | United States, on servers worldwide |
Photon carries the match and the voice for us, under the data protection terms of its own service agreement, which we accepted when we opened our account. We have not negotiated anything separate with them. The company we contract with is Exit Games, Inc., based in Portland, Oregon.
Valve does not work for us. It acts on its own behalf for your Steam account, your purchase and your Cloud storage, under Valve’s own privacy policy, and we have no say in it.
7. Transfers outside the European Union
Yes, and here is exactly when.
Photon runs servers around the world and the game connects to the one closest to the players in the match. A game played between people in Europe is carried in Europe. A game with players elsewhere is carried elsewhere, and your position, your actions and your voice go through that server for the length of the match. Exit Games states that it covers those transfers with standard contractual clauses.
Valve is in the United States, but it does not process anything for us. Your Steam account and your Cloud storage are between you and Valve, under Valve’s own policy and its own arrangements.
If anything else changes, for example the day clip sharing opens and clips are stored somewhere, this section changes with it, and so does the date at the top.
8. How long we keep things
If we change one of these, the policy changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your clips | as long as you keep them. They are on your machine, not ours |
| A clip you shared with us, that we do not use | 30 days, then deleted |
| A clip you shared and we used | as long as it is online or in material we still distribute, such as a trailer, plus the record of your permission |
| Crash reports | 12 months |
| Session data | for the length of the match |
9. Your rights
You can ask to see your data, to correct it, to erase it, to limit what we do with it, to get it in a portable form, and to object to processing based on our legitimate interest.
Write to contact@playhuntingparty.com. We answer within one month. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).
10. Taking a published clip down
If you appear in a clip we published, on any of our accounts, ask us and we will take it down. Write to contact@playhuntingparty.com. We aim to remove it within 72 hours, and you do not have to explain why.
This applies whether or not you are the person who sent the clip.
11. Children
Hunting Party is not meant for children under 13, and the Steam Subscriber Agreement already requires that age. Below the age of digital consent in your country, a parent should decide.
12. Security
Clips stay on your machine. What does reach us is stored with access limited to the people who need it. If a breach happens and it puts you at risk, we tell the CNIL within 72 hours and we tell you.
13. Changes
If this policy changes in substance, the game shows you the agreement again. Older versions stay available so you can see what changed and when.
14. Quebec
For players in Quebec, the person responsible for personal data is the studio’s founder, at contact@playhuntingparty.com. You can ask us to stop distributing information about you and to de-index it.
